BAE-1073

Intro

The BAE-1073 is based on a legendary three-band hardware EQ that has become a studio staple for its rich and warm sound. It features a high-pass filter before the EQ, making the unit even more versatile and precise, in other words, a must-have for any tracking or mixing session.

Description

The BAE-1073 is famous for its warm, musical sound. It’s often used on vocals and drums, but it does its magic on any source signal. It’s a very versatile EQ, and that’s exactly why it’s so popular. It includes three different EQ modes: high pass, low pass, and band pass. Each mode has its unique sound. The high pass mode is great for removing unwanted frequencies, rumble, or spill. The low pass mode is perfect for adding weight to a track or taming harsh frequencies. The band pass mode is somewhere in between, and it’s great for shaping the overall sound of a track.

Antelope Audios BAE-1073 reigns superior when it comes to modeling the original EQ. Meticulously measuring and closely studying the unit’s behavior allowed us to get as close as possible to the original sound of the BAE. The result is an EQ that is capable of adding the grit and character of the original without overtly coloring the sound. The BAE-1073 is perfect for those after the classic British EQ sound without sacrificing any sonic clarity.

History

1073 was originally designed by Brent Averill Enterprises (BAE) in the early 1970s. The EQ became an instant classic when it was released, and it’s still considered one. Known for its classic British sound it’s been used on some of the most iconic records of all time including Michael Jackson’s Thriller and Bruce Springsteen’s Born to Run. The EQ has also been used on countless hits by artists like Madonna, Taylor Swift, and Beyonce. In modern times, it’s pretty rare to enter a top-tier studio that doesn’t have this unit at hand.
