CARTRIDGE is a drum effect built around the audio hardware of four generations of video game systems. Instead of a single generic bit-reduction knob, it recreates each console\'s converter as a swappable cartridge: a 4-bit handheld, a 7-bit home system, a 16-bit console with its signature echo, and a 32-bit CD-ROM machine. Choosing a cartridge reconfigures bit depth, sample rate, output filtering and the hardware\'s particular quirks in one move.
Beyond the converter itself, CARTRIDGE adds a square-wave fuzz layer, a noise channel triggered by the hi-hats or snare, a tempo-synced echo whose repeats degrade further with each pass, and a DAC drive stage with soft, hard and wrap-around clipping. A Bad Contacts control introduces flipped bits, dropouts and stuck samples for glitchier results. It is just as useful for subtle texture as for full destruction: more than half of the factory presets leave the core drum sound intact and build character around it.
Two views let users work fast or go deep: a streamlined Console page with four macros and the cartridge slot, and a Circuit page that lays out every stage in signal order with its own bypass. The plug-in runs at zero latency, every parameter is automatable and MIDI-mappable, and activation works offline with no iLok or dongle required.
